President Trump Meets with President Al Sisi of Egypt

Today, President Donald J. Trump met with President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi of Egypt at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). President Trump reflected on his first meeting with President Al Sisi at UNGA in 2016 and highlighted the close relationship between the two leaders. Both Presidents underscored the importance of bilateral security cooperation and commended recent efforts to strengthen regional security, specifically reviving Operation Bright Star: a series of combined and joint training exercises led by American and Egyptian forces in Egypt. Yesterday, in his address to the UN, the President discussed the importance of security and the role that each leader plays in protecting their nation. President Trump emphasized the crucial role that Egypt plays in stability of the region and urged for greater bilateral coordination to resolve regional conflicts. President Trump and President Al Sisi also discussed Egypt’s efforts to build a stronger and more dynamic economy. The President praised President Al Sisi’s courageous economic reform program.

President Al Sisi said, “I’d like to thank you and extend my appreciation for all the support you’re giving to Egypt.”
