The use of drugs in sports has reached a level that endangers not just the legitimacy of athletic competition but also athletes’ lives and health. The Office of National Drug Control Policy also plays a leadership role in coordinating the United States’ anti-doping activities, and ONDCP’s Director has historically represented the United States at the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

In Fiscal Year 2018, ONDCP provided nearly $12M to WADA and the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to fund research and efforts to educate athletes on the dangers of drug use, eliminate doping in amateur and professional athletic competitions, fund scientific research, and help athletes across the world adhere to U.S. and international anti-doping standards.
