President Donald J. Trump met yesterday with the United States’ senior defense and military leaders to review progress in protecting the homeland, advancing American prosperity, pursuing peace through strength, and promoting positive American influence abroad. The President also relayed his national security priorities and how the Department of Defense can continue to advance them. The President commended the defense and military leaders for their efforts in defeating the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, pursuing a much more aggressive campaign in Afghanistan, defending against the North Korean threat, countering Iran, and assisting with relief efforts during this unprecedented hurricane season. Finally, President Trump conveyed his utmost appreciation for those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen serving in harm’s way in defense of the Nation. Following the meeting, the President and First Lady hosted a dinner with the leaders and their spouses, during which they discussed the many challenges faced by military families.
