Ambassador John Bolton spoke today with National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon of the United Arab Emirates.  Sheikh Tahnoon congratulated Ambassador Bolton for his recent appointment, and the leaders committed to maintain a close, personal relationship as they work together to advance shared American and Emirati interests.  Ambassador Bolton thanked Sheikh Tahnoon for the United Arab Emirates’ long and unambiguous record of fighting extremism and terrorism.  Ambassador Bolton recognized the many Emirati soldiers and diplomats who have sacrificed their lives in this fight.  The leaders discussed the historic cooperation between the United States and the United Arab Emirates on countering terrorism and aggression, starting with Operation Desert Storm and continuing through the ongoing fight against ISIS in Syria, Al-Qa’ida in Yemen, and the Taliban and ISIS-Khorasan in Afghanistan.  The leaders discussed regional developments, including Syria, Iran, and Yemen, and agreed to coordinate closely to find ways to enhance the American-Emirati strategic partnership on these important issues.
