Today, President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to nominate the following individual to a key position in his Administration:

John Leslie Carwile of Maryland, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Latvia.

Mr. Carwile, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister-Counselor, currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Office of Career Development and Assignments in the State Department.  Mr. Carwile has twice served as Deputy Chief of Mission, first at the United States Embassy in Brunei and more recently at the United States Embassy in Nepal.  He has also served as Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs at the United States Embassy in Italy, as well as Counselor for Economic Affairs at both the United States Embassy in Iraq and the U.S Embassy in Canada.  Mr. Carwile earned a B.A. from the College of Wooster and an M.A. from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies.
