“We are Free Because You are Brave”

2 minute read

First Lady Melania Trump gave the opening remarks to military personnel and their families gathered at Joint Base Andrews today, moments before President Donald J. Trump took the stage. Prior to her remarks, the First Lady had spent the day visiting with the children of service members. She expressed that she had enjoyed getting to know them, and thanked everyone who made the opportunity possible.

“Every child whose parents served should be proud, because your mom or dad is a true American hero,” she said.

She added that the Air Force has made America proud with its thorough, compassionate response in the wake of two devastating hurricanes in Texas and Florida. “Americans have trusted in the United States Air Force because we know you will never flee, you will never yield, and you will never fail,” she said. “We are free because you are brave.”

Finally, she thanked the families of service members for their sacrifices. “This kind of lifestyle requires its own kind of courage, and your sacrifices do not go unnoticed or unappreciated,” she assured them.

“This administration will always stand with the men and women of the United States Air Force.”
